Installing the Python compiler PyPy on Anaconda

Installing the hard way first try.

  1. On Anaconda, create an environment named PyPy with Python 3.8.12
    1. This is the latest version as of 1/28/2021
  2. Check for removal for openssl, vc, and vs2015_runtime
    1. These features conflict with PyPy. If you did it correctly, it should look like this:PyPy001.pngClick to enlarge.
  3. Click the Apply button.
    1. After clicking apply, your PyPy environement in Anaconda should look like:PyPy002.pngClick to enlarge
  4. Click PyPy003.png and select Terminal.
  5. At the terminal prompt, type: conda install -c conda-forge pypy3.8
  6. When prompted, click yes.

Installing the easy way second try

  1. Go to base(root) environment
  2. Click PyPy003.png and select Terminal
  3. At the terminal prompt, type: conda -n create PyPy
  4. At the terminal prompt, type: conda activate PyPy
    1. This will change the beginning of the prompt from (base) to PyPy.
  5. At the terminal prompt, type: conda install -c conda-forge pypy3.8
    1. This is the latest version as of 1/28/2022.
  6. At the terminal prompt, type: pypy -m ensurepip
  7. At the terminal prompt, type: pypy -mpip install -U pip wheel
  8. Installing Python modules: (I will put a few examples)
    1. pypy -mpip install numpy
    2. You can find interesting Python modules to install here.
  9. Trying to install Spyder (doesn't work) in the PyPy. However, we might be able to run PyPy within the Spyder IDE.
